Intrepreneur : The Secret Entrepreneur

17 September 2025 Emma Williamson Comments Off on Intrepreneur : The Secret Entrepreneur

Intrepreneur : The Secret Entrepreneur You Never Thought You Could Be

If you’re an employee, for most of your career, you may have thought of yourself as just an ’employee’ — even if you’ve held senior roles and made decisions that shaped your company’s future. The word entrepreneur may have felt like it belonged to someone else: the startup founder, the big-risk taker etc.

But the truth is, if you’ve been driving innovation, finding solutions, and taking ownership inside your company, you’ve already been something just as powerful: an intrepreneur .

And through employee ownership, intrepreneur s like you finally get to step fully into entrepreneurship — without having to start from scratch.

What is an Intrepreneur ?

An intrepreneur is someone inside an organisation who thinks and acts like an entrepreneur. They innovate. They spot opportunities. They solve problems. They push things forward as if the business were their own — even before they have a share in it.

Sound familiar? Senior leaders often embody this without even realising it. You’ve been steering projects, making bold calls, and finding new ways to create value for years. You’ve been carrying responsibility not just for your own job, but for the success of the whole business.

That’s intrepreneurship.

The link between Intrepreneurship and Ownership

More specifically Employee Ownership, which is the natural next step for intrepreneurs.

Instead of having your ideas and efforts absorbed into “the company” while others reap the rewards, EO ensures you have a direct stake in the business you’ve helped to build. It bridges the gap between acting like an owner and becoming one.

And here’s the beauty: unlike starting a brand-new venture, employee ownership gives you entrepreneurship with the safety net of an existing, proven business. You don’t have to leave your career behind — you carry it forward into ownership.

Why Senior Leaders make exceptional Intrepreneur -Entrepreneurs

People in their late 30s into their 50s can feel they’ve “missed the boat” on entrepreneurship. But in reality, this is the ideal stage of life to make the shift from intrepreneur to entrepreneur.

  • You know the business inside out — its strengths, its challenges, and its opportunities.
  • You’ve already been leading change — intrepreneurs are natural problem-solvers and innovators.
  • You bring stability and perspective — qualities some entrepreneurs haven’t lack to develop.
  • You care about legacy — protecting jobs, communities, and values, not just chasing quick wins.

In short, you’re already halfway there. Employee ownership simply completes the journey.

A different kind of Entrepreneurship

Becoming an intrepreneur -entrepreneur through EO is about:

  • Owning without starting: Taking a share of a business you already know and believe in.
  • Leading with confidence: Bringing your lived experience and leadership into strategic ownership.
  • Sharing the rewards: Seeing your commitment reflected in financial returns and decision-making power.
  • Protecting what matters: Ensuring the culture, people, and community around the business continue to thrive.

This is entrepreneurship grounded in reality, not hype. And it’s built for people who thought their chance had passed.

It’s not too late

If you’ve ever thought, “I’m not cut out to be an entrepreneur” — think again.

You’ve been one all along. An intrepreneur .

Employee ownership simply turns that hidden role into a visible reality. It gives you the recognition, the stake, and the opportunity to step into full entrepreneurship — without walking away from the career and community you’ve built.

Because intrepreneurship about finally owning what you’ve been shaping all along.

From intrepreneur to entrepreneur — employee ownership lets you become the entrepreneur you never thought you could be.

Why Gen Z Needs an Alternative Option

25 March 2026 valloop-static Comments Off on Why Gen Z Needs an Alternative Option

There’s a conversation happening with Gen Z right now. You only need to scroll TikTok, Reddit, even LinkedIn and it goes something like this: What’s the point? I’ll never own a house anyway. Might as well put it all on crypto. This is financial nihilism. The belief that the traditional path to work hard, save steadily, build slowly doesn’t really lead anywhere anymore. That the system wasn’t designed with this generation in mind.

Davos 2015 to Today – Why Employee Ownership’s Moment Has Arrived

26 January 2026 Emma Williamson Comments Off on Davos 2015 to Today – Why Employee Ownership’s Moment Has Arrived

Eleven years ago, I was privileged to speak in Davos about the potential of Employee Ownership Trusts (EOTs) and the structure of the John Lewis Partnership, at a time when EOTs were seen merely as an emerging, almost experimental, idea. The conversation was an investigation of the novelty and difference of ownership models that could help rebuild trust, resilience and long-term value in our economies.

The Right to Request Employee Ownership

8 December 2025 Emma Williamson Comments Off on The Right to Request Employee Ownership

Employees have the right to ask their employer to consider employee ownership through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). This request is not a legal demand, but a legitimate, professional and increasingly recognised conversation. Employers are encouraged to consider and respond to the request, and employees should expect respectful dialogue. The Right to Request supports fair work, good employment and long-term business continuity.
